A RELEVANT STARTING POINT

What are you
developing next?

Begin with the job the garment needs to do.
Explore the decisions that shape your programme.

Choose your development programme
PROGRAMME / WATERPROOF SHELLS

Start with the conditions. Then choose the construction.

From lightweight rainwear to 3-layer hardshells, put end use, hand feel and target cost into the same conversation.

Discuss this programme

What does your customer need this shell to do?

  • 2L / 2.5L / 3L construction
  • Fabric, membrane & seam sealing
  • Test method, conditioning & target
  • Scope and feasibility are reviewed against your specification.
PROGRAMME / INSULATED OUTERWEAR

Build warmth around how the garment will be worn.

Down and synthetic insulation involve different choices in bulk, weight, care and cost. Define those choices before committing to a sample.

Discuss this programme

Which balance of warmth, weight and price fits your range?

  • Down or synthetic fill selection
  • Fill weight & garment construction
  • Traceability documents where required
  • Scope and feasibility are reviewed against your specification.
PROGRAMME / SOFTSHELL & LAYERS

Make movement, comfort and protection work together.

Develop softshell, fleece and trekking pieces around your wearer, layering system and retail positioning.

Discuss this programme

Where does this piece sit in your customer’s layering system?

  • Stretch, weight & fabric handle
  • Fit, layering & pocket placement
  • Care, durability & colour requirements
  • Scope and feasibility are reviewed against your specification.

A development conversation should make your
decisions easier. Here is a useful place to start.

MAKE CAPABILITY CHECKABLE

Look closer.
Ask better questions.

A product photo starts the conversation. The construction, test context and project records help you evaluate the next step.

01

See the actual construction

Ask for relevant sample details: seams, closures, lining and finishing.

02

Put numbers in context

Match performance values to a method, material and report scope.

03

Check the document’s scope

Confirm the holder, validity and applicability of each requested certificate.

THREE QUESTIONS TO TAKE INTO YOUR BRIEF
01 / CONSTRUCTION

What should go into a shell development brief?

Start with wearer, conditions and price position. Then agree the fabric structure, seam construction and test requirements.

End use → construction → verification
02 / PERFORMANCE

What does a performance number actually refer to?

Review the waterproofness and breathability values alongside the fabric, test method and intended use.

Method + tested material + conditions
03 / SOURCING

How does colour count affect order planning?

At the current baseline, one colour starts at 500 pieces per style; two colours start at 600. Custom materials may change the calculation.

Confirm style, colour and material minimums

BEFORE WE START

The practical questions.

Who is behind Swing Outdoor?

Swing Outdoor is the technical outdoor apparel business operated by Xiamen Swing Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd., based in Xiamen, China. Its working scope includes development review, material sourcing, sampling, production follow-up and quality coordination. Ask us to clarify the responsible production facility and contracting entity for your project.

Can we start without a finished tech pack?

Yes. Start the conversation with your product category, end use, reference images, quantity and target launch date. We will help develop the specifications for quotation and sampling.

What order quantities should we plan for?

The current planning baseline is 500 pieces per style and at least 300 pieces per colour: for example, 500 pieces in one colour or 600 across two colours. Custom fabrics, colours and trims may introduce additional minimums. Confirm the complete quantity and colour breakdown before quotation.

How should we discuss waterproof and breathable performance?

Share your waterproofness and breathability requirements, intended use and preferred test method. We will match the fabric and construction to your programme, including washing and conditioning requirements.

How are compliance and certification requirements handled?

List the requirements for your intended market in the project brief. We coordinate the relevant material, facility and supply-chain documentation for your programme.

How long does sampling take?

7–12 working days when materials are available; longer when new fabric or trim development is required. Timing is confirmed after the specification and material availability review.

Start with your next outerwear project.

Share your end use, quantity and development questions. We will review the next step against your brief.
